Britt’s Story
“Wine doesn’t have to be expensive to be good. Quality over everything!”
— Brittany Tangora, Founder
Wine with Britt was founded by Brittany Tangora in 2020 in upstate New York.
Brittany has been working with wine since 2017 in various wine-focused restaurants.
How It All Started
After working in various wine focused restaurants, Brittany decided she wanted to make wine the focus of her career. In 2019, she applied to the International Culinary Center for their Sommelier program. In January 2020, Brittany moved to Manhattan to begin the intensive 10-week program to earn two pins under 11 Master Sommeliers. There are a total of four levels through the Court of Master Sommeliers and Brittany was ready to reach the second level; however, when she was one week away from taking her exams, COVID changed the world.
During the pandemic, Brittany kept studying for her Certified Sommelier exam and in the mean time, started Wine with Britt to keep relevant and motivated in her wine studies. In September of 2020, as the world started to open up a bit more, she began working in a local wine store, again, still waiting to hear of her exam dates.
In April of 2021, she was able to start working in a restaurant again, this time, as an Assistant Sommelier!
The Story Continues
At last, in August of 2021, Brittany was finally able to take her certified exam and passed, receiving the title and pin of Certified Sommelier. It was also during this time that Brittany decided that she wanted to take a different direction with wine so she left the restaurant industry and moved to Vittoria, Sicily to work a wine harvest at Azienda Agricola COS.
After spending three months in Sicily, learning how to make wine, she was re-inspired and knew that Italian wine was her passion. In November of 2021, Brittany returned back to the U.S. and moved into a small apartment in Manhattan, where she worked with two different, small wine portfolios, selling wine throughout New York City. In March of 2022, Brittany traveled to Verona for the Vin Italy Academy to become an Italian Wine Ambassador, to continue to pursue in her passion for Italian wines.
This has been her most challenging wine exam to date and did not pass; however, she plans to return back to Verona in the spring of 2024 to claim the title and pin of Italian Wine Ambassador through VIA.
Where She Is Today
In October of 2022, Brittany returned back to her roots in upstate NY and was consistently being drawn back to Wine with Britt. She has finally found her true passion in sharing her knowledge with other wine lovers and those that are excited to learn and try new wines, as this world of wine is endless.
Whatever capacity you’re working with Britt, whether it’s in a tasting, a staff training or a complete wine program renovation, one thing remains consistent, Britt’s love for truly good wine.
With all of Brittany’s experience in education, restaurants, retail, winery and distribution, she has come to find that wine does not need to be expensive to be good. Of course there are always exceptions! However, there are incredible wine producers in this world that focus on everything they do from the earth to the bottle and this is exactly what Brittany likes to teach and share with her guests.
For Brittany, wine has always been about gathering, food, friends, family, love, warmth and fun. All of these themes are woven into Brittany’s work, whether it’s a tasting, teaching or even just a general discussion about what she’s most passionate about.
